Digital Phone Service
What is Digital Phone Service-- Digital Phone service, sometimes referred to as Internet Phone, is an alternative method for communication that allows voice and data to travel over high speed data transmission lines. Most Digital/Internet Phone companies use VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) where the voice/data is sent via the Internet only without quality of service controls. Lexcom Digital Phone service utilizes Lexcom’s dedicated network for security and state-of-the-art technology to insure voice and data transmission with the highest quality of service, known as “Carrier Grade”…unlike other services providers who offer only a “best effort” quality via Internet telephony alone.
The Best of Both Worlds—Unlike other providers in the area, Lexcom can provide the safety of traditional wire-line service in addition to the economy of Digital Phone Service.* Both services can even be configured to work together to provide customers the best of both worlds with the convenience of one bill.
Availability—Digital Phone Service is currently available wherever Lexcom Cable is available…Residential Customers should call 336-249-9901 for availability. Business Customers should Contact 336-249-5781.
Basic Installation—A Lexcom Cable technician will connect a Digital Phone Adapter to a cable modem and/or personal router. The customer’s existing telephone wiring will then be connected to the Digital Phone Adapter. All customers needs vary and Lexcom will attempt to accommodate those needs; however, some restrictions as well as additional charges may apply.
Digital Phone Use- Lexcom’s Digital Phone can be used with your regular touch-tone telephone(s) and calls are made the same as with a traditional phone service. For long distance calls, you can receive collect calls, and make international calls as you normally do. Features work the same as well…for questions about Features and their use, please refer to the front of the Lexcom Telephone Directory or visit the Telephone section for information on Features.
Security Systems—Because Lexcom does not install, support, or service alarm systems, we recommend that you contact your security system provider regarding Digital Phone Service. Please note, if your security system relies on Digital Phone service and if there is a power or network outage, your service will not be available. This is why Lexcom recommends customers not rely solely on Digital Phone service but encourages customers to use it as a compliment to Lexcom’s traditional wire-line service. Traditional wire-line service has an elaborate back-up system that keeps the service operable in the event of a power outage providing access for security systems and emergency 911 in times of need.
Self Installs—Currently Lexcom does not have the ability for customers to self install at this time.
Keep Your Same Phone Number--With Digital Phone you can keep your existing Lexcom phone number so you don’t have to notify everyone you know or do business with about a new phone number. If you wish to keep a non-Lexcom phone number, Lexcom can verify portability from your previous provider (some restrictions may apply).
Getting a New Phone Number-- If you receive a new telephone number from Lexcom and no longer desire phone service from your current phone service provider, then you will need to contact your current phone service provider to disconnect your current phone service.
Choice of Long Distance Carrier—By subscribing to Lexcom’s Digital Phone service you are choosing Lexcom Long Distance as your Long Distance Carrier.
DSL—If you are a DSL subscriber, you will have to contact your DSL provider to disconnect your DSL service prior to your Digital Phone installation appointment. If you wish to keep your DSL service, Lexcom cannot provide you with Digital Phone Service throughout your home unless new station wiring is installed. Additional charges may apply.

Lexcom is the only local Digital Phone provider that offers both a walk-in customer service and payment center for face-to-face service as well as a local 24/7 Customer Service Call Center.

Digital Phone does not include back-up power and should there be a loss of electrical power or network outage, Digital Phone including the ability to access 911 services will not be available. Lexcom encourages customers to use this form of communication only as a compliment to Lexcom’s traditional wire-line service and not as their sole method of communication. Traditional wire-line service has an elaborate back-up system that keeps the service operable in the event of a power outage providing access to emergency 911 in times of need. Digital Phone customers should also note that if you move your digital phone client/adapter, 911 operators will not be able to accurately identify the change of address unless you establish new Digital Phone service at the new address. Digital Phone customers will be required to sign an E911/Emergency Services Limitations Acknowledgement. Because Lexcom does not install, support, or service security/alarm systems, we recommend you contact your system provider regarding Digital Phone Service. Please note, if your security system relies on Digital Phone service and if there is a power or network outage, service will not be available.
